Our After School Program is fabulous and it's all thanks to the hard-working staff. They work together to plan interesting activities to engage the students. Not only do they work every school day but they also work during school breaks and summer. Thank you, After School Program employees!

The Bobcats had their first game of the season against the Cutten Tigers last night. The girls played hard and did a fabulous job. There was a big crowd cheering them on. Check our calendar for the next game!

The SBMS Interact Club & ASD Family Resource Center are having a Bake Sale! The money raised will be used to buy food to give to deserving families in the Arcata School
District for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Join us for the first Girls Basketball game of the season. We will be playing Cutten on Thursday, November 1 at 6:00 pm at the Sunny Brae Middle School gym.

A gigantic THANK YOU to the hard working recess duty staff for all that they do! Our recess staff are ever vigilant to catch kids doing the right thing and praising them for making good choices. They also play games, help with tetherball disagreements, assist with finding missing jackets, and mediate disagreements. The staff monitors the playground in all weather, 180 days of the school year.

Our first Book Fair of the year is coming up on November 5 - 7. This is a fabulous opportunity to talk to your kids about the importance of reading every day. And for those of you who are super proactive and are already shopping for the holidays, the Book Fair is a great place to find the perfect gift or stocking stuffer. The Book Fair hours are:
Monday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
Tuesday 8:00 am- 5:30 pm
Wednesday 8:00 am - 2:00 pm

Come for the fun times at our annual Fall Carnival!
Pasta Dinner will be served from 5:15 - 6:30 pm
Games will be available from 5:30- 7:00 pm
Prize Room is open from 6:00 - 7:15 pm

On October 22nd and 23rd members of the Arcata School District (ASD) will be attending the Equity Summit. The Humboldt County Office of Education, in partnership with Humboldt Area Foundation, Humboldt State University, City of Arcata, and College of the Redwoods will be hosting the first annual community wide Equity Summit.
The two-day event will explore themes around social justice, implicit and explicit bias, student homelessness, special education inclusion, racial equity, supporting immigrant families, the Hmong experience, LGBTQ, micro aggressions, and local tribal perspectives.
The ASD team attending the event are: Luke Biesecker (ASD Superintendent), Becky MacQuarrie (SBMS Principal), Victoria Parker (AES Principal), Nicole Reis (AES 5th Grade Teacher), Ann Youmans (SBMS Social Science Teacher and Athletic Director), and Althea Jones (ASD Counselor).
