The K-Kids are hosting the monthly Family Movie Night on Friday, January 18th. Doors open at 6:00 pm, and the movie starts at 6:30 pm.

Guess who's having a book published? Our very own Cheri Stubbs! Not only is Cheri an amazing classroom aide for our fourth grade, but outside of work she has written a children's book that will be published in about 6 months. She has been working on the concept for several years and she's thrilled that she's going to be a published author. Congratulations, Cherie!

What would we do without Dave Sloan, our lead maintenance person? He's responsible for keeping our school up and running. Dave can fix anything we break, from water pipes to lights. Thank you, Dave!

Fox Farm Soil and Fertilizer Company recently donated a pallet of Ocean Forest potting soil - just in time for our winter garden clean-up on Saturday, January 26th. Ms. Hayes' first grade class were eager to get their hands dirty in our amazing school garden. Thank you, Fox Farm, for your generous donation!

Today was the first day of our Walking School Bus. The group met in front of Murphy's on Alliance and walked to school. Each morning the group will meet at 7:55 am and then start to walk at 8:00 am. Sunny Brae Middle School students can join us too. There is a bus at AES to transfer students to the middle school that departs at 8:20 am.

Many thanks to Cristal, Racheal, and Jessica for helping out in the after school program. After working in their classrooms they jumped into the after school program to make snack for over 100 students. We have an amazing staff at the Arcata School District!

Last Tuesday the students and staff at AES wore purple to show their support for epilepsy awareness. The students also had a chance to win an Ultimate Yogurt gift certificate if they guessed the correct (or closest) number of purple marbles in the jar. Chandelle Owens, ASD parent and ambassador with the Chelsea Hutchinson Foundation, presented the winners with their prize at our monthly assembly. Each grade level had one winner. Only one student in the whole district of over 500 students guessed the exact number of marbles. Very impressive!
