Our TK - 4th grade students participated in Arcata High School's annual Math Fair. Each year the high school students create math games and invite local schools to participate. An infinite amount of fun was had by all!

The kindergarten class created amazing leprechaun traps for their STEAM activity.

Rain or shine - and this year we have had a lot of rain - Jessica and Cristal lead the walking school bus to school every day. They help the students safely cross the street and then accompany them to school. Thank you both for all that you do for our school!

AES celebrated Read Across America on Friday, March 1. Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss. Motivating children to read is an important factor in student achievement and creating lifelong successful readers. Research has shown that children who are motivated and spend more time reading do better in school.

Dr. Ramona Bell, professor of Critical Race, Gender & Sexuality (CRGS) at Humboldt State University, also visited our TK classroom during our Read Across America celebrations and read The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson. Dr. Bell's HSU students will be visiting in the upcoming weeks to read books focused on diversity, inclusion, justice, and anti-racism as part of the HSU program, "Act to End Racism."

As part of Read Across America Day and building connections and community with Sunny Brae Middle School (SBMS), several members of SBMS's Black Student Union (BSU) came to AES this afternoon to read books to students that will stimulate an insightful conversation about discrimination. Opening this dialogue with students and teachers empowers individuals to work to eliminate racism in their lives, schools, and communities.

This year students and families collected 5,637 Box Tops! That means we have $563.70 to buy new books for our school library. Thanks to everyone who participated and support our school, and an extra big thank you to Jessica and Trinity Rasband for their donation of 1400 Box Tops.

Mornings are busy at AES! Our Breakfast Club serves and supervises approximately 100 students each morning for breakfast. Thank you for all that you do!

Three of our Bobcat Basketball players and Coach Rudy participated in Eureka Parks & Recreation's Camp N.E.T over the President's Week holiday. Camp N.E.T. is a specialized basketball camp for youth to refine their skills, learn new tricks of the game, become part of a team and have fun! It was an energetic week filled with team spirit, breakdown drills, games, and competitions.
